Nick Sweet is an up-and-coming multi-instrumentalist. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Nick showed an early interest in many styles of music. He began playing trumpet and piano, later switching to trombone in high school and was exposed to the city’s thriving scene, an alumni of Thara Memory’s holistic jazz approach. Recent notable performances include those with the likes of McCoy Tyner, Dave Douglas, Maria Schneider, Joe Lovano; and have been in large part due to the support of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, where Nick got a full scholarship in 2005. Berklee provided a nice backdrop to hone his skills in songwriting and synthesis as well. In 2006, at age 19, Nick won the International Trombone Festival’s Edwards jazz competition. Now graduated, he has become reacquainted with the trumpet, playing it on the road with indie-folk singer Bearkat. He plans to move to Chicago this fall to teach privately and to continue writing, studying, and playing music.
